The full impact of this building, and indeed the full impact of the leading role concrete plays in this building, needs to be seen first hand. The intricacies and complexities of the site and of the brief are handled with great care and precision. The volumes and spaces formed by the concrete structure are only surpassed in quality by the flowing public spaces left between them. Perfect detailing is matched by concrete of extraordinary quality leaving the jury singularly impressed and in wonderment at how it was achieved. There is clearly a marriage of conviction between Client, Architect, Engineer and Contractor that permeates this building at every level.

The winner of the Building Category and overall winner of the Concrete Society Awards 2012 is The Lyric Theatre, Belfast.
