Ministers Harris and Donohoe turn sod on new Academic Hub and Library in TU Dublin Grangegorman

Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, and Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe, today turned the sod on the new Academic Hub and Library at TU Dublin's Grangegorman campus.

When completed in 2024, The Academic Hub and Library will be a landmark building at the heart of TU Dublin’ Grangegorman Campus. It is a cluster of buildings arranged around external courts. At the centre is the protected North House, within the old St Brendan’s hospital.

It will include a lively ground floor with student services, a café, exhibition space and Learning Commons. On the upper levels will be the new Library for the Campus. It is envisaged as a light-filled lantern providing views across the city landscape, the building is a showcase for learning, research and academic activities.

The building will become home to a range of student and staff supports, including the Career Development Centre, Civic Engagement, Maths Learning Centre, Disability Support Service, and People Development.

Speaking today, Minister Harris said:

"Today is another milestone in the development of TU Dublin as we progress a new Academic Hub and Library on this ever-expanding campus.
“Over the past ten years the Grangegorman development has transformed its neighbouring area, creating employment, education and improving access. The Academic Hub and Library is an important investment in the development of TU Dublin’s Grangegorman campus and I am delighted to be here to mark the beginning of the project."
