Friday Lecture Series: The Index of Influence Dedicated to Mark Baines
Sheila O'Donnell and John Tuomey have been invited by 'Missing in Architecture', a collection of architects and educators at Glasgow School of Art, to deliver a lecture on October 23rd as part of their Friday lecture series. They will discuss their architectural education, influences and practice. They will illustrate their talk with drawings models and photographs, including an update on current projects and buildings.
This Friday lecture series is dedicated to Mark Baines, a much loved colleague who sadly passed away in April 2020 after a ferocious battle with pancreatic cancer. Mark taught at the School for over 30 years and influenced countless students and staff as well as the school and in turn architecture itself, throughout his career. Through his thoughtful, quiet and sensitive approach to teaching and life he was able to encourage students to take time to think and design architecture which was rooted in reality.
Mark attended every Friday Lecture, sitting quietly at the front, watching without ever taking notes. He gave many votes of thanks, always short and to the point, the highest praise a simple, ‘I really enjoyed that’.
This lecture series draws on Mark’s extensive influence, moving from the local to the global, from the micro to the macro always rooted in an ethical architectural response to Context.
This lecture will take place virtually through Zoom.
