John Tuomey was inducted as Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters at their  annual Ceremonial in New York on 22 May 2024. 

The following citation was read by Kwame Anthony Appiah, president of the Academy:

The buildings of John Tuomey feel familiar in that they seem to “belong” but are at the same time always utterly new. He was awarded the Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects with his partner Sheila O’Donnell.

Their latest work for the Victoria and Albert Museum and Sadler’s Wells Dance Theatre reveals an ever-growing capacity to exemplify the balance between invention and authenticity.
