Good Shepherd Convent UCC

The brief from University College Cork was to make a development plan for the former Good Shepherd Convent and its lands in Sunday’s Well, Cork, to accommodate a humanities campus for 1,500 students in Phase One.

The scheme involved the transformation of the convent buildings and the design of new buildings to house the departments of Social Studies, Adult Education, Music and Law and their related information resource and social facilities.

The project was abandoned at detailed design stage when the University acquired additional lands adjacent to the existing campus.

The proposal worked with the slope on the site to make a series of new spaces and courtyards which defined the relationships between new and old buildings and which transformed the melancholy character of the old buildings.
