Book Launch: Saw Swee Hock

BOOK LAUNCH to celebrate the publication of

Saw Swee Hock: The Realisation of The London School of Economics Student Centre

The Saw Swee Hock Student Centre is the first new building to be constructed at the London School of Economics (LSE) for over 40 years. Saw Swee Hock provides a detailed and richly illustrated overview of the buildings realisation from the commissioning process through to the appointment of O’Donnell + Tuomey and their inventive response to the complexities of the brief and the site. Collaborating with bespoke manufacturers, particularly in regards to the quality of the bricks, each of which is hand formed, the result is a facade that is both striking and unusual to central London.

Edited by Julian Robinson of LSE Estates, the book includes contributions by Oliver Wainwright, architecture and design critic for The Guardian and an in-depth conversation with architects Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey of O’Donnell + Tuomey, as well as interviews with the designers and manufacturers who were involved in the fascinating construction process.
