O’Donnell + Tuomey were announced as winners of the Architecture Practice of the Year Award by Icon Magazine. The inaugural Icon Magazine International Awards 2012 were announced at a special event held in Nicholas Hawksmoor’s Christ Church Spitalfields, London on the 6th December 2012.
O’Donnell + Tuomey were selected from shortlisted nominations by a distinguished panel of judges – Alice Rawsthorn, Edwin Heathcote, Kieran Long, Libby Sellers and Ab Rogers. The shortlist included Zaha Hadid (London), Lacaton and Vassal (France), Alejandro Aravena (Chile) and Barkow Leibinger (Berlin). The Lyric Theatre Belfast was shortlisted in the category of Building of the Year.
The Dublin-based duo excel in designs that resonate with their cultural and historic contexts. They created one of the outstanding buildings of 2012 – Belfast’s Lyric Theatre – and are now testing their approach on major projects in London and Budapest.
